The Family Centre's First Birthday Party 2016

We celebrated the Family Centre's First Birthday with a huge turnout of 200 people, including over 100 kids! Everybody came dressed as their favourite superhero, because we think that kids, mums and dads who are impacted by type 1 are just that - SUPERHEROES!

Along with a disco, photobooth, games, and a surprise visit from Elly the Elephant, we opened our brand new playground. It was built by volunteers from the type 1 community, with support from Bunnings, Foti Earthworks, Creative Landscapes, and the Stirling Men's Shed, and designed by Shea Hatch from Nature Play. The kids loved our new fort, slide, log walks and basketball court - another reason to visit the Family Centre!

We also received a very special grant from Lotterywest, presented to us by local member for Balcatta Chris Hatton MLA, which will support a shade sail for our playground, AV equipment for our training spaces, and help us extend our CGM Loan Program. It was a wonderful gift to receive on our birthday.

We wrapped up the day with sugar-, dairy- and gluten-free cupcakes from The Sugarless Bakery, so our type 1 kids didn't go home with sky-high blood glucose - they were delicious!

There were smiles for miles - we were chuffed to bits to throw such an awesome party for our type 1 kids.
